The Savoia Marchetti SM.75 was one of the more important
military transport and civil product in Italy from the end of years 30. Widely employed from
Regia Aeronautica, species in the connections between Italy and the colonies, he was
protagonist of memorable enterprises : they
were produced in versions that were distinguished externally for the
configuration of the vertical rudder, initially similar to S.81, then equal to that one of the
S.82, and, in the version bis,
squared and stumped or like the first configuration.
From the same one it came gained a seaplane, the S.87. The fact that the wing
platform of these aircrafts remained unchanged like
90 %, has pushed
the polish Broplan to
reproduce all varying, in four confection different, at first the bis and
then the others, leaving from that one with the rudder S.82 type, in
its range of models in vac-u-form.
This kit is composed from seven sheets (of which one for the
transparent parts) on which are printed publication 50 parts and two
trees with 29 pieces everyone in low
pressure plastic. All
these members are
identical to those of the others kit dedicate
from this company to the several versions of S.M.75, only
the sheet with the tail and the diving planes is different. Moreover,
like custom of the Broplan, the plastic of the thermoformate
parts is not much thick one, in some drawn is truly risked: in a generalised manner
that facilitates very the liberation of pieces and their cleaning but
subsequently the same characteristic reveals a consistent annoyance in
the successive course of the construction of kit. The inject parts must be cleaned
up from slobbers and
reproduces: shovels
of the propellers and relative ogives,
legs undercarriages, wheel of tail, stars and motor, frontal drainages
of the nache motor,
actuators and counterbalances of the ailerons andirons, and for the
space pilots (only inner part which they are dedicates of pieces) two
seats (decomposed
in four pieces everyone...) cloches (to they time uniforms in insert
and asta), dashboard. Many pieces are doubled
and makes unusable to you, it would have been better instead to put
some other piece in iniettata
plastic like cowlings of the motors and the wheels :
all these particular ones are instead in vacuform,
everyone decomposed in two pieces with cited the risked thickness...
With this particular model can be reproduced the aircraft M.M.60539
also called G.A (Great Autonomy) or also R.T., employee for the
round-trip flight carried out between the end of the month of june 1942 and the 20/07/1942
between Rome and Tokyo : this
adventurous connection in time of war between
two countries allies but separate
from enemy powers, was carried out for recuperate the new
codes secrets for the communications radio between Italy and Japan. A detailed report of this
enterprise can be
find on number 45 - June 1997 of Storia Militare magazine
(Tuttostoria-Parma). From
the photos of the aircraft published on the cited review, has noticed
that the same M.M. 60539, beyond to being disarmed, one endured did not
introduce the line of the windows in typical fuselage of the other S.
M.75 but only after the cockpit and two in proximity of the doors in
fuselage. With the cianoacrilico adhesive, before
cutting pieces from the plastic, I have filled up the present
recordings on seeds fuselages of the Broplan model that reproduced the
other windows and the cupola of the advanced machine-gun. Once dried up the
adhesive, with abrasive paper I have levelled all, only king-recording
the horizontal panelling and opening the six cited windows. Other differences of S.M.75 RT is found in the configuration
of the windows of the space pilots.
The model reproduces with recordings the little external panellings of the real aircraft
and of it it respects
shapes and dimensions. The
hinge of the assembly of the kit (for which the Broplan supplies a
clear sheet instructions) is in assemlbing
of its two semifuselages: the shape of the sames concurs to insert to their
inside various other bulkheads of I reinforce beyond to the two sun
supplied of kit (one vertical and one horizontal, relative both to the
space pilots). For
all the length of the fuselage, in correspondence of the union zone, I have inserted also two strisce of palsticard, always for giving
compactness, necessary also in is made of puttyng
and of abrasion of
the sign of splice, two operations will be repeated and lasted to along
for all the unions of pieces putting to hard try the patience. The Broplan for the reproduction of
the vetrate parts of
the flight deck supplies like separated piece, in always termoformato transparent
acetate, all the roof of the same cabin:
it is a solution that personally I do not appreciate
preferring instead to open the
sfinestrature that then
I fill up to the end with the transparent liquid Kristal Clear.
The tail of the aircraft joins to the semifuselages in way relatively
easier, not therefore the two wings. These
are to they time decomposed in two pieces;
to their inside a spar (present between the parts in
vac-u-form would go place) that passing in the fuselage, it would have
to act as also from base for
the legs of the used undercarriage. Unfortunately this spar must rasped
in various points otherwise one does not become part in
the fuselage and it would give to the wings a
irreal
corner. The splice between wings and fuselage then is an other point
where it will have to be abounded with the putty and with small pieces of plasticard: at least in the
instructions the Broplan has inserted of the trittici
of the aircraft and that facade is most useful in this phase that will
be longest; completed
the same one, the construction of the kit is completed with other
particular like the three motors, the undercarriages and the vertical
rudders. Pieces
that reproduce the drainages motor are not suitable for
S.M.75 RT (than it had them much longer and angled); the same aircraft
introduced under the edge near the motors, some air intakes and over,
in correspondence of the same ones, an extracting machine of flow;
there are also a goniometer
to bulb and two antennas to stilo
on the back of the fuselage limitrofa
in place of pilotage. Finally finished the construction,
it can be passed to reproduce the external livery of
S.M.75 .
The first exemplary of the aircraft with the tail S.82 type, exiting
from the factory, being assign to you to personality like Cesare Balbo
or Pietro Badoglio, had the typical
coloration and registration of the Italian civil aircrafts. At first hostilities came
reshapes with camouflage field to spots;
the 20 exemplary produced from January 1942 had all the
camouflage green dark olive 2 (Humbrol 92) for superficial advanced and
blue gray 1 for those
inferiors. The SM
75 R.T. had this camouflage one but it also had the remarkable
characteristic of being the only Italian airplane in WWII to having the standards Japanese
insignias, overlapped to those usual ones of the Regia Aeronautica,
conserving the usual fascio
in fuselage and the cross in tail.
The Hinomaru
came applies the 03/07/1942 at the field of Pao
Tow Chen, in the part of controlled inner Mongolia from the Japanese
and remained for the remaining draft of the flight until Tokyo.
The red
circles came only cancels before the happened departure the 18/07/1942
from the same Chinese field.
Thanks to the collaboration of Riccardo
Trotta, associate IPMS
connected Italy and famous expert of thematic to the history of the Regia
Aeronautica, I have been able to examine other photos of S.M.75 R.T., published on semimonthly “Ali di
Guerra” of the 10/08/1942, ascertaining therefore the
dimensions of the Japanese standards applied to the Italian aircraft. For the four of the wings
I have thought opportune to use of the Hinomaru
of 25 milimeter of
diameter (features from the sheet decals of the BR.20 Italeri in 1/72)
and for the two in 11 fuselage I have used decals of milimeter of diameter while wrap
it 13 white woman is wide milimeter
approximately. The
cross in tail has been realized
with templates; the
coat of arms of Savoia house on the tail cross and makes us in fuselage
is drawn from sheets Sky Model and/or Tauromodel.
If you see the photos of S.M.75 R.T. can see that in fuselage, in
proximity of the wing root, there is a zone
where the varnish appears consumed and cleared, a lot
probably for the
duration of the flight (the same zone appears still more extended, in a photo of the aircraft to the return to Rome), and also the frontal rings of the nache motor it appears worn away
: these are the only signs of
aging that I have
believed necessary to apply to the coloration of the model.
Creed to have express with these my words how much has been long the
construction of a kit like S.M.
75 in 1/72 of the Broplan, but I return to say that once that they are
successful to finish it they have been much satisfying of the final
result, a lot that I am already thinking next to the construction of S.M.75 with
the rudder
like S.81, quite with civil standards, to that one S.87 and also to that one kit exited Broplan, idro twin-engine Macchi C.94 !
Many thanks to Broplan for the
review sample, specially to Mr. Janusz Brozek.
